Navigators use Sonar, as fish finders and depth finders to find locations for a good
catch or to generally know what other objects lay between their
vessel and the water bed. All sonar consists of a transmitter,
transducer, receiver, and display. By sending electrical pulses using
the transmitter, the transducer, a device capable of changing energy
from one form to another, sends a sound wave through the water down to
the sea floor (vertical configuration) or horizontally (forward looking
configuration). The sound wave will eventually bounce back after
hitting an object (depending on the distance) and the transducer will
pick up this reflected sound wave and reverse the process. The time
difference between the transmitted pulse and the reflected one can be
used to calculate the distance, dimension, bearing etc.
Most
of the humminbird transducers produced, and other depth finders of the
same class will give you vertical images or a bird's eye view of the
underwater; or a horizontal view which is a view of your position
relative to the horizon; operational frequency is usually below 200
KHz. Lowrance fish finder, Humminbird fish finder, Garmin fishfinder
all rely on the same principle, and depth finders in general all
utilize echo location to measure characteristics of objects within the
water and display an image of that result to you on screen. Lowrance is
accredited for being the original makers of commercial sonar and
tweaking their application for fishing and marine activities. You can

The
iScan V90 sonar is a depth finder and a fish finder combined, developed
by Interphase. It is a complete navigational tool with a coupled
transducer, used mostly on light commercial and recreational marine
vessels. The iScan V90 has plenty of advanced features; It's display
will can show you how deep the water level are, sand banks, dangerous
reefs, the structure of the seabed and other objects underwater such a
schools of fish. It is portable and very easy to install because of its
compact size; but don't let its size fool you as the iScan can measure
accurately up to a depth of 600 feet below and has Hi powered forward
range of up to 1200 feet of your boats bow.
It
comes with a large 16 inch LCD that can be viewed in harsh sunlight for
you convenience; it has one-touch capabilities for the user as well.
The display constantly updates in real time, all the information you
will need. This depth finder allows you to connect video input such as
your camera, VCR or DVD players as well; and it gives you selectable
color schemes to work with i.e. night, sun and normal. In addition to
this feature rich depth finder, the V90 is fog and waterproof.
